Terry Davidson & The Gears

“LEAVE HERE RUNNIN’”

Bangshift Music 2004

Leave Here Runnin’ ”, the CD from guitarist Terry Davidson & The Gears, will have you running from Columbus to Chicago, Memphis, Austin and even a little side trip to the county fair. This is the first recording from the current Gears lineup of Todd Silas, bass and vocals, and Bob “The Wrench” Hanners on drums. Featured guests are part-time Gear Ray Fuller, making his recording debut on blues harp, and former Gear and keyboard master, Todd “Dr. Fingers” Brown.

For those who have not heard Terry & The Gears perform live, the new CD presents an accurate representation of their wide range of styles and influences. The creative chemistry between Terry, Todd and “The Wrench” is highlighted by the fact that 12 of the 14 tracks are band originals.

The title track is a high energy shuffle followed by a “Slow and Easy” blues showcasing Terry’s trademark clean fret work. “Blood” is down and dirty with some gritty slide work. “Can’t Get Enough of That” is the band’s tribute to the late John Lee Hooker. Can you say “Boogie chillen”?

“Boomerang Baby”, written by Todd Silas, is a workout for the entire band featuring clever word play and inspired playing by all. Chicago style blues get a work out with the band’s reworking of “Information Blues” featuring righteous guitar playing from Terry. Our side trip to the county fair is courtesy of the “Snake Handlin’ Woman”, a Stonesish boogie tune which features some tasty piano runs from Todd Brown.

“She Drives Me Wild”, “Here I Go Again”, “A Little Wine”, the surf inspired “Space Needle”, and “What the Hell Am I Doing Here” demonstrate the more rockin’ side of Terry and the boys.

A great collection of tunes from a band that always leaves you wanting more. Here is hoping there are more to come.
